Florida DOT to Host DBE Conference 1
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a “DBE Matchmaker Conference.” It will be held on May 17, 2007 in Tallahassee at the FDOT Burns Auditorium.
As the Federal Highway Administration(FHWA) requires, FDOT assures compliance of all Florida contractors with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) as well as other federal requirements.
Activists for the disabled are meanwhile organizing in Florida as lawmakers discuss cutting more than $150 million to $170 million in spending cuts. This would negatively affect thousands of Floridians with developmental disabilities.
In March Veterans in Tampa gathered at a national commission charged with creating a strategic plan to cover improvement of veterans benefits and service for the next 20 years. The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the AMVETS have come together to create the national commission.
Florida holds the second largest population of veterans in the United States, with 1.8 million. California holds the largest population of veterans, but the rate of growth in number of veterans is higher in Florida.
